> [!info]+ A membership tier is the configuration: what the deal is. Assigning a customer to a tier creates their membership. This page covers every setting on the tier form and what it does to a booking. You'll find tiers under **Settings > Membership settings**. Create one from scratch, or start from one of the four templates in the setup guide and edit it. There's only one kind of tier underneath, so anything a template sets up you can change or add later. See [[Getting Started with Memberships]] if you haven't turned memberships on yet. ## Name, description and icon The **name** is what your staff see in lists and what members see on their account page, so use something a customer would recognise. "Gold" works. "Tier 2 (2026 pricing)" will confuse people. The **short description** rides along with the tier on the member's account page and on receipts. A line like "A loyalty rate for the people who book with you most" does more than you'd think, because it tells the member why they're getting a better price. The **icon** shows next to the tier name in the dashboard and on the member's account. Purely cosmetic, but it makes tier badges scannable in a long customer list. ![[tiers.png]] ## Membership payments Every tier decides how its members pay for it, under **Membership payments** on the form: - **Free** - the tier costs nothing. - **Paid outside Jammed** - you arrange the money yourself. - **Automatic Stripe subscription** - Jammed collects a flat fee monthly or yearly on your own Stripe account. The fee is separate from everything below. A tier can charge £25 a month and include 10 hours of booking, or charge nothing and give a 10% discount, or any combination. Picking a Stripe subscription changes how assigning a member works, since their perks wait for the first payment. That's covered properly in [[Membership Payments]], which is worth reading before you put a price on a tier. ## Booking discounts A whole number percentage, 0 to 100, taken off every booking that member makes. It applies online and in your calendar, without anyone doing anything. Choose what the discount applies to: - **Booking price** (the default) discounts the room and time only. - **Booking price + any chosen extras** discounts the [[Extras|gear and any other extras]] on the booking as well. Booking fees and any taxes are always applied, and always included in the discount, so the sums work the way anyone would expect them to. Things to know: - **[[Coupons]] and the membership discount never stack, and the coupon wins.** If a member has an active coupon, that booking uses the coupon instead of their tier discount. - **If part of a booking is covered by an allowance, the discount only applies to the part the member is actually paying.** Members are never discounted on time their plan already covered. - **Changing the percentage later doesn't re-price existing bookings.** Bookings already made keep the price the member agreed to. Only new bookings use the new rate. ## Booking allowance An amount of booking included in the membership. Covered bookings cost the member nothing, including the booking fee and tax on the covered portion. Pick **one** unit per tier: - **Hours of booking**, entered in hours (10 or 1.5) - **Amount spent** Then set a **monthly cap, a yearly cap, or both**. Leave a field blank, or at zero, for no limit on that period. **Allow bookings over the allowance** decides what happens at the cap. When it's on, members can book past their allowance and pay the overage. When it's off, bookings that would take them over a monthly or yearly limit are blocked. There's a fuller explanation of pots, partial coverage and overage in [[Booking Allowances]], which is worth reading before you set caps on a live tier. ## Preferential payment terms This overrides your studio's default [[Payment Settings|payment setting]] for members of this tier: - **Full payment** - payments taken at time of booking - **Reservations** - booking without upfront payment - **Payment choice** - the member can pay online or later, and gets both buttons at checkout Leave it unset and members follow your studio default. > [!warning] An override replaces your studio default outright, deposits included. If your studio normally takes a 50% deposit and you set a tier to reservations, members of that tier pay nothing at the time of booking. That's usually the intention, but check it's what you want before you assign anyone. Pay-later members also skip the hosted checkout entirely, which means they never receive the abandoned payment chase emails. There's a separate setting for whether stored cards are auto-charged after the cancellation window: use studio default, yes, or no. That covers the booking balance, not membership fees. ## Booking approvals Overrides whether this tier's bookings need [[Booking Approvals|approving]]: - **Require approval for every booking** - **Auto-approve every booking** The tier setting beats your room settings, which beat your studio default. So a trusted tier can skip approval everywhere, and a probationary tier can be made to need approval everywhere, without you touching the settings on individual [[Rooms|rooms]]. This applies to bookings made by logged-in members. Guest bookings follow your studio default. ## Room and activity restrictions Assign specific rooms and [[Booking Activities|activities]] to the tier. When a member of that tier is logged in, those are the only choices they see on the booking page, and a booking outside them is refused. - Leave the selection **empty** for no restriction at all. - Choose **All** to keep the tier valid in every room, including ones you add later. **This is how you offer member pricing.** Create an activity called something like "Members Only" with your discounted rates, restrict the tier to it, and only that tier can see or book it. That gives you a public rate and a member rate side by side, without a percentage discount. Two things to be aware of: > [!warning] Restrictions only fully apply when members log in before booking. If your studio allows guest bookings, someone can book a restricted room as a guest because Jammed doesn't know who they are yet. The tier form warns you about this and gives you a one-click way to switch your studio to private bookings. If a guest checks out with details that exactly match a member's account, Jammed reconnects them at the final step, so both perks and refusals land late. **Your staff are never blocked.** If you book a member into a room outside their tier from the dashboard, it goes through, and the booking page shows you a note saying it's outside the tier. You're trusted to make the call. ## Editing a tier later Edits take effect from the moment you save. Changing the discount percentage never re-prices bookings already made, so those keep the price the member agreed to. If you're changing an allowance on a tier that already has members with bookings in the diary, check those bookings before you save rather than assuming they're insulated. And if you change what a tier includes in a way members will notice, remember that nothing tells them. Members are emailed about payments and tier changes, but not about a tier's perks changing underneath them, so if you cut an allowance from 10 hours to 5, that message has to come from you. Changing the price of a paid tier works differently, and there are limits on changing how a tier is billed once people are subscribed to it. See [[Membership Payments]]. ## Archiving a tier Tiers that have been used can be archived, not deleted, so your history stays intact. An archived tier can be restored later. Archiving is blocked while the tier still has current or scheduled members, and Jammed will link you straight into the move flow so you can shift those members somewhere else first. See [[Assigning Members]] for how moving customers between tiers works.
