We’re winding down our Square payments integration so we can focus on a single payment processor. It's a big change to Jammed but one with good reason and benefits for everyone. We're doing it in stages to give studios enough time to switch how they take payments. From today, Square is no longer available as a payment option for new studios joining Jammed. ## Why is Jammed removing Square? Simply put - Square is consistently giving studios worse payment experience versus Stripe. Cards are declined at a higher rate, fraudulent cards are accepted at a rate that is unacceptable, especially in the USA. Chargeback rate and processing times are also measurably worse. The payment API and infrastructure our side is difficult to work with, and has open bugs still 4+ years after we reported them - it's not good enough. Keeping both Square and Stripe running and with feature parity was proving harder as Jammed grew. ## Stripe as the replacement Stripe gives us a richer feature set and lets us ship more features for you and faster. Not only does Stripe offers much better fraud and chargeback protection, but we also see far better card acceptance rates in Stripe compared to Square - so it’s worth your time. We already support stored card charging through Stripe, and from now features around payments will only be added for accounts linked to Stripe. ## During migration, you can keep both systems connected If you've been using Square in your studio for a while, you can have bookings in the future that take place after the transition date where you'll still need to offer refunds. If you keep Square connected, you can still then do this through the Jammed dashboard. **If you disconnect Square, you won't be able to reconnect in it Jammed.** To migrate, first connect Stripe to Jammed and then switch online payments first. Square will still be usable to refund, but from then on all new online payments will go through Stripe. ## Migrating from Square to Stripe 1. Login to the staff panel, your user must be an admin. 2. Head to the **Payment settings** page, find the 'Online Payments' section ![[payment-settings.png]] 3. You should see 'Square' in Online Payments, keep this as-is for now. Underneath this, find the Stripe Connect button - press this and start the process of creating or linking a Stripe account. ![[stripe-connect-button.png]] 4. Once you're ready to move, change the online payment setting to 'Stripe' - and you're done. ![[using-stripe.png]] 5. Only disconnect Square when you're ready to. Once you disconnect Square, you won't be able to issue refunds to transactions in Jammed, but you can still do this on the Square dashboard directly By 1st December 2026, if Square is still connected on your account, we'll disconnect it for you. ## Timeline for the migration Bottom line: All studios must take new online bookings using Stripe from 31st August 2026. Then from 1st December 2026, refunds will stop working for any historic Square transaction. - **1st March 2026**: Jammed removed Square for new signups. - **6th May 2026**: Square sunsetting was announced - **11th May 2026**: Email to all staff at studios using Square announcing removal - **25th May 2026**: Banner will appear in the staff section about removal - **1st August 2026**: Second email to all staff still using Square - **31st August 2026**: Forced migration still using Square. Any account still using Square will move to taking no online payments Bookings will come through from customers but have no payment Square Terminal will be removed. You won't be able to use this with Jammed. - **1st December 2026**: Integration is removed. Refunds to any Square transactions will stop working after this point. If you’re already using Square, your account keeps working as normal until 31 August 2026, when Square will be removed from Jammed. If you’re still using Square by then, we’ll disconnect it, and all bookings will come through without online payments. If you have Stripe connected, we'll switch it over then. We won't disconnect Square, so that refunds can still be made in Jammed. If you are using Square today, you’ll be nagged by us from now every few weeks reminding you of this change, and you’ll soon see a banner in the admin section about the upcoming change. A few reassurances if you’re on Square today: - No money is lost. Any pending Square payouts will still land in your bank account as scheduled; - You’ll still be able to view your full Square transaction history at any time and forever, you’ll never lose track of past payments; - You can still issue refunds on past Square bookings up to the end of August 2026; - You can connect a Stripe account in less than 10 minutes and switch over without downtime. Any old checkouts or payment requests will still work; - If your studio uses Square Terminal, we’ve added Stripe Terminal support in Jammed, so you can switch to that for card-present payments.
